How to Wear Face Covers to Keep You Safe
With the COVID-19 pandemic underway, wearing facial covers is more important than ever before. In fact, the CDC recommends that you wear face covers whenever you are in public and when you’re around people who don’t live in your household. However, kids under the age of 2 or anyone who has breathing problems should not wear face covers. Special masks designed for healthcare workers like N95 respirators should not be worn by the average citizen since they’re currently in short supply. With the right facial covers, you can protect yourself from germs and viruses and help protect others, too. Make sure you wash your hands before you put your mask on and place it over your nose and mouth with the facial covers secured under your chin.
When facial covers are over the mouth and nose, it helps to prevent the spread of dangerous viruses. Combined with social distancing, masks can be an effective tool to slow or even stop the spread of a variety of infectious diseases. Do not put your mask around your neck or your forehead when you wear it. Keep it level with your face, with the bottom part touching just at your chin. Look for masks that are machine washable so you can keep them sanitized. Ideally, you should wash your mask at least every other day, or more often if you wear the same one all day long. Follow good hygiene for even more protection. Wash your hand often using soap and water and scrub for at least 20 seconds or more. If you can’t find a sink, hand sanitizer is a good substitute. Wearing a face mask on a regular basis is a great way to protect yourself and others around you, so be sure you make wearing this face-covering part of your daily routine.
